WHAT DO INEQUALITIES LOOK LIKE IN BOLTON?Life Expectancy and Healthy Life ExpectancyTogether life expectancy and healthy life expectancy are important indicators of overall population health, and inequalities in health. A longer life isn%u2019t a sufficient measure of health, insteadalongside this measure we also consider healthy life expectancy (HLE) which describes the estimated number of years individuals can expect to live in %u201cvery good%u201d or %u201cgood%u201d health.These charts on the following pages show us that, not only do residents in Bolton%u2019s least deprived areas live significantlylonger than those in our most deprived areas, but they also live longer in good health. On average, both men and women in Bolton%u2019s most deprived areas experience poor health even before the age of retirement, an inequality that has much wider impacts on quality of life and economic prosperity.11
